YAY! Sitting down to post a quick blog. It's been busy, busy in the Johnston casa and we are bracing ourselves for the purely insane fall/winter we are about to be thrown into! Excitedly.
Carter is 10 months now. And full of life and personality. I don't think I've seen another child go as much as this lil munchkin. He is bouncing off the walls (literally). He loves to fling himself against the couch and use it as a bounce house basically. He thinks it's the greatest thing in the world. And it's soooo funny to watch that Zach and I have encouraged him to do it. Realizing recently that it is going to be a hard lesson for him when we try to break him of the habit as he is bigger and bigger. We realize that we brought this on ourselves and wouldn't change it! ;) Carter is fullllll of facial expressions and sounds. One of my favorites is a deep growly "wooooooo" with his little lips pursed in a perfect "O" and his eyebrows raised! It makes me laugh everytime and he does it quite often, I'm pretty sure it's when something is fascinating. And at this age, everything is fascinating! He is walking (ish). He takes steps here and there but he is such a quick kid that he doesn't have the patience to take a controlled step, so it turns out to be a tip toe step which is more like a run. I like to describe him as looking like the Jesus Lizards. They walk high on their toes and flail their little arms as the hurriedly run forwards. That's my guy. When he actually is calm (haha, a rareity) he can take a few controlled steps that seem intentional. He'll be full blown on the move soon enough.
I have been having a BLAST planning his first birthday party (gasp). I can't believe it's here already. I am already thinking of what next year's party theme will be - and we're still 2 months away from having this one. I hope all my ideas come together and work out as I've envisioned them. We are having a Vintage Toys themed party so it will be red, classic blue, and white and I'll pry have a pop of yellow here and there. The rest is a surprise until we have it. But I'm crossing my fingers it all comes together. My parents are fabulous and allowing us to throw his party at their house. We planned on doing the little gym, but calling 2 1/2 months ahead didn't allow us the date and time we needed. Ultimately I would prefer a house anyways. We couldn't do it at our condo because it is just not the right space for housing so many kiddos. So thanks a ton to C's Captain and Gigi! A first birthday to remember!
We just got back from a week long trip away from Carter with the Tuckers to Belize. It was amazing and I survived being apart from my boy. I missed him like crazy though. Called everyday, thanks mom for letting me call you an insane amount of times! :) I'll have a post in itself on the trip. It was so great that we've already planned and booked our next adventure together. Johnckers 2012 - as we've named ourselves now. :)
Ok, just a quick update and I'm going to work on the Belize one now! :)
Sounds like you do have a lot going on! I think boys are just more active than girls. They are nosy little creatures who have to experience everything for themselves. It doesn't change when they get older either. I swear my hubs dances around me all day when he is home. He just can't sit and allow me to cook or clean...it's like he wants to be involved and is the curious kitten :) Carter is co cute, I say time for number two!!!!
